The Soul of Sondagskloof…

The Soul of Sondagskloof – she’s known for her natural freshness and mouthfeel, exuding European minerality, nuances of fresh fynbos spices and green apple. She grew up in a cool climate appellation where Mediterranean and Continental influences are evident and resulted in the welcoming climate changes which, for some time now, have been knocking on our front door.

Considering the annual rainfall pattern we’ve gotten used to, our pre-season rainfall was almost non-existent; adding hereto a noticeable drop in windy conditions whilst maintaining an average temperature consistently lower than that of the greater Walker Bay as well as the critical differences in day – night temperatures, our vines are in excellent health.

The well-tended Sauvignon blanc blocks which Lochner Bester, our Viticulturist, cordoned off for Kaalvoet Meisie show balanced growth, smaller bunches and berries and promising concentration for vintage 2017. We anticipate Sauvignon blanc picking to start a fortnight from now and look forward to starting up the presses!
