Some stories are made up. This one isn't. 

In the early 1800s, a Dutch teacher named Hermanus Pieters made his way through the Overberg. He was paid in sheep to teach the farm kids. He followed the flock in search of fresh water — and landed in a spot that became known as Hermanuspietersfontein.

When the postmaster decided that name was too long for his stamp, he shortened it to Hermanus. Because we’re stubborn like that, and because we don't mind taking the long route.

Fast-forward to 2005: HPF is founded. Our cellar doors open in Hemel-en-Aarde. Our vineyards stretch into Sondagskloof. And the rest? Come taste it for yourself.
